Why write a strong update?
Updates re-engage donors with the member and show them the value of their donation. Sometimes, donors will even donate again when they receive a powerful update! Updates that you and the member write get sent automatically in an email update to all of the member's donors and will also be posted on the member's profile.
What should I say?
Donors mainly want to know what their money went towards and how this helped the person move forward. It doesn't have to be a long update it can be really quick and easy!
Two main things donors want to know:
- What were the donations used for?
- Why is this important to them or how does this help them move forward?
Tip:
Include a photograph!
It's really effective to include photos in your updates when possible. For example, if the member was able to successfully fundraise for dentures, you might want to include a photograph of them smiling with their new teeth! Being able to SEE the impact is what helps turn one-time donors into repeat donors!
Examples of strong updates:
"Thank you for helping me get my birth certificate. I need this document to apply for housing programs and it's always good to have a copy of it. Thank you."
— Rodger
"Thank you so much for helping me buy a laptop! I'm so excited to complete my GED online and start applying for jobs. I've been wanting to do this for a very long time, and this laptop will help me reach my education goals."
— Catherine
