Partners are responsible for ensuring member privacy and informed consent in three ways:
- Making sure that every member submitted to HandUp reads, signs, and understands the Release Waiver. This may mean taking an extra ten minutes to answer the member’s questions about the Internet, show them another member’s profile on HandUp, find a translator if they don’t speak English, or take any steps necessary in order to ensure that the member is in the right state, mentally or otherwise, to comprehend and provide consent. (Note: HandUp does not accept members under the age of 18)
- Helping us present every member in a positive, truthful, and dignified light. We enable members on HandUp to tell their stories to the world in the way we ourselves would want to be presented. Partners help us do this by keeping positivity and dignity in mind as well as encouraging honesty when interviewing members and submitting profiles, updates, and photos.
- Set realistic expectations of what types of things can be sought through our platform and your organization. It is important to be up-front with the member of what your organization is capable of fulfilling, or not fulfilling, so they can set their goals accordingly.
